Allen's great-great-grandmother
was a sister of Daniel DeFoe, who wrote Robinson Crusoe. Allen's
son T. B. owned a shop on Dayton Street and was once Yellow Springs'
postmaster. Allen's son Emmett enlisted in the Civil War at age fourteen
an died a prisoner in Salisbury, North Carolina. Lydia was Allen's second
wife and he her second husband. They both had children from these previous
marriages. Allen's son T. B. and Lydia's daughter Mary married each
other, making their parents their in-laws and cheating their children
out of one set of grandparents.
