William Mills - the
"Father of Yellow Springs" - lies here with his father, stepmothers,
several siblings, three wives and four of his children. His father,
Elisha Mills, came here in 1827, having purchased property for a resort.
In 1842 Elisha deeded 600 acres of land to his son William who had dreams
of founding a town. William brought the railroad through in 1846 and
had a village laid out by 1855 which was incorporated the following
year. He donated $20,000 and 20 acres of land to entice Antioch College
to locate here. William's mother, Nancy Perry Mills, was an aunt of
abolitionist John Brown. The Mills children are among the earliest burials
in the Glen Forest Cemetery
