Terrible Swift Sword: Yellow Springs and the Civil War

2:00 p.m. in the Yellow Springs Senior Center Great Room

The Civil War was the defining moment for an entire generation of Americans. Come and hear Yellow Springs Historical Society President Dave Neuhardt tell the stories, both triumphant and tragic, of Yellow Springs residents at home and on the battlefield. Learn why Miami Township can rightfully be called the Banner Township of the Banner County of the Banner State, and how local soldiers were witnesses to both the beginning and end of the fighting. Local photographs and artifacts of the Civil War will be displayed.

The gathering is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Fess up: a Yellow Springs Political Dynasty
2:00 p.m. in the Senior Center Great Room

The Yellow Springs Historical Society announces its Fall program for Sunday, Oct 2 6th “Fess Up: The Story of A Yellow Springs Political Dynasty.” To commemorate Election Day, Antioch Archivist Scott Sanders will discuss the life and career of former Antioch College president and seven term member of US Congress, Simeon D. Fess and his son, Lowell, a longtime Mayor of Yellow Springs and state legislator. The event will take place on Sunday, October 26th, 2-4 PM in the Great Room of the Yellow Springs Senior Center, 227 Xenia Ave. The event is free and open to the public.
